Maca (Lepidium meyenni walp) is a small root tuber growing in the Peruvian Andes. This plant is a distant relative of our known celery (Apium Graveolens). Since time immemorial, maca has been growing in the wild and high Andean plateaus, a hostile and jagged region which is faced with extreme climatic conditions. In this poor mountainous region, maca even now belongs to the most important sources of income and valuable foodstuffs, by the Indians all along highly appreciated in case of "sleep disorders, period pains, hormone fluctuations and as a natural aphrodisiac".

Already during the 16th century, Spanish conquerors transported the root, which they called "magic cure for the love" to Europe by ship. For the colonial masters of that time, maca was considered valuable to that extent that they accepted it as a regular means of payment.

The university "Universidad National Agraria La Molina" in Peru confirmed that maca belongs to the very important foodstuffs, which besides the high iodine concentration contains many proteins, all essential amino acids, many iron, zinc, magnesium, calcium, carbohydrates, phosphor, starch substances, important mineral nutrients, nearly all vitamins and finally hormone-similar substances, which activate both the "testosterone provision" of men and the "estrogen provision" of women.

Moreover, the plant contains approximately 300 further substances, such as coloring and essential oils which partly have still not been tested in detail. It is further reported that maca can be taken in any quantity without any restrictions. As a natural substitute for anabolic steroids without any side effects, maca is highly appreciated by sportsmen also.

Maca - The "Ginseng" of Peru

No wonder that the South Americans are proud of their maca, because besides the nutrition-specific advantages the maca plant has advanced to cultural assets of the Andes and made a name of itself as "Andes Ginseng" or "Peruvian Ginseng". As we learn from historical traditions, maca has been appreciated for centuries due to its stimulating, revitalizing and libido-supporting characteristics. "Maca makes strong for life and love", is meanwhile reported not only in the Peruvian Highlands.

Our maca powder comes from the best-known Peruvian area of cultivation, where it is cultivated by our supplier without any pesticides or other fertilizers, which in Peru is called organic farming or natural cultivation. The Department of Health has issued a testimony for our supplier, confirming that all regulations dealing with foodstuffs have carefully been kept.

One vegetable cellulose capsule contains 400 mg pure maca powder of Peruvian organic farming, 80 mg acerola powder with 17 % natural vitamin C and 8 mg natural vitamin E.
